An Introduction to Plastic Mold Opening

Plastic molds are very easy to use because, compared with other types of molds, they are simple to manufacture and more convenient to operate. However, opening a plastic mold actually involves numerous processes and multiple departments; let’s take a closer look below.

1. The customer is involved throughout the entire mold‑making process: they must communicate with the design department early on, confirm the sample type and make an initial payment, and then proceed with the full production process under the mold manufacturer’s coordination. This department maintains key contacts primarily to streamline mold production and ensure that the customer’s requirements are met.

2. Plastic Mold Design Department. The mold design department plays a crucial role, as it must collaborate closely with clients to align the mold’s shape, materials, and structure, ultimately producing multiple prototype samples tailored to their specifications. Once the client has finalized the mold type, the team conducts a detailed briefing with the client and coordinates with the production or sales departments to process the order. Furthermore, throughout the manufacturing phase, the department monitors mold‑making progress and, based on sample feedback, continuously refines the design to ensure that the final product meets both user expectations and technical requirements.

3. Plastics Molding Business Department. Its primary responsibility is to finalize details such as specific requirements, quantities, and unit product prices. However, much of the time, these specifics—quantity and unit price—are determined by the customer. Once pricing is agreed upon, the department aims to maintain close communication with the customer throughout the entire mold‑making process. Due to economic considerations, this oversight extends across the full lifecycle of the mold. The department also plays a critical role across all other divisions.

4. Plastic mold technology. The technical department typically produces multiple prototypes for the customer based on the design department’s drawings, and the product specifications are adjusted to meet the customer’s specific requirements. Once the customer approves the prototypes, any concerns or suggestions are communicated to the design department, which then revises the drawings and dimensions to ensure that the manufactured molds fully satisfy the customer’s needs.

5. Plastic mold Production Department. The production department is the final stage in the mold‑making process. With the initial samples and design artwork already finalized, their task is simply to manufacture the products according to specifications, enabling timely delivery to customers as scheduled. While the technical challenges are not particularly high, certain standards and requirements must still be met.
