As the LED industry continues to advance, the development of LED spotlights is also making rapid strides. Overall, the market places the greatest emphasis on the visual appeal and the overall lighting performance of these fixtures. Therefore, LEDs… Spotlight lens The design must meet three requirements: first, the novelty of the lens shape; second, the effective transmittance of the lens; and third, the visual effect of the lens and the lamp. Since these three requirements determine… Spotlight lens Design trends, therefore, typically fall into the following three categories.
The first type features a freeform‑surface sidewall, with an eye‑like near‑light surface and an adjustable light‑emission angle ranging from 250° to 600°. It is typically made of PC material and can be used for COB‑based spotlights, with a lens‑exit diameter of 14 mm. Its optical efficiency achieves a maximum transmittance of 94%.
The second type features a straight‑faced external scale and a compound‑eye design at the center of the illuminated surface.
The third type of lens features an external freeform surface, a low-beam face, and a light-emitting surface with a compound spherical profile. The latter two LED lenses are typically made from PC material and offer excellent high-temperature resistance. The light source can be implemented as a surface-mount module or a COB (Chip-on-Board) configuration. The beam angle is adjustable from 30° to 60°, delivering uniform illumination. From the outside, the visual effect resembles that of a COB, thereby broadening the range of available light-source options.
Additionally, taking into account the diversified demands of the high-end market and the cost considerations of lighting manufacturers, lens designs incorporating multiple light sources are also characteristic of LEDs. Spotlight lens Key considerations for designers: By carefully selecting the compound-eye lens surface and external scale pattern on spotlight lenses, not only can the overall visual appeal of the fixture be enhanced, but the frequent design challenges associated with pairing different light sources with various lens types can also be effectively addressed, resulting in significant cost savings. Moreover, this approach enables lighting manufacturers to shorten development cycles and accelerate time-to-market.
