Today, outdoor LED displays dominate the advertising industry. Depending on the specific requirements of each project—such as pixel pitch, resolution, budget, content playback, display lifespan, and whether front‑ or rear‑access maintenance is preferred—different trade-offs must be made.
Of course, you must also take into account the load-bearing capacity of the installation site, the ambient brightness around it, the viewing distance and angle of the audience, the local weather and climate conditions, whether the display is rainproof, and whether it has adequate ventilation and heat dissipation—among other external factors. So how should you go about procuring an LED display? Below are a few recommendations from the editors at Qiangli Jucolor.
1. Requirements for the displayed content: The aspect ratio—whether it’s image or text—should be determined based on the actual content. For video screens, the standard is typically 4:3 or a close approximation; the ideal ratio is 16:9.
2. Verification of visibility distance and viewing angle. To ensure clear visibility at long distances under bright lighting conditions, ultra-high-brightness LEDs must be selected.
3. In terms of exterior design, it is now possible to tailor LED displays to the specific architecture and contours of a building. For instance, during the 2008 Olympic Games and the Spring Festival Gala, LED display technology was pushed to its limits, delivering exceptionally flawless visual effects.
4. Attention should be paid to fire safety at the installation site, as well as to the project’s energy‑efficiency standards. Of course, when making a selection, factors such as brand reputation, LED screen quality, and after‑sales service are all important considerations. Outdoor displays are exposed to constant sun, rain, and wind, enduring harsh operating conditions. If electronic components become wet or severely damp, they may short‑circuit or even catch fire, leading to equipment failure or fires and resulting in losses. Therefore, the structural design must account for weather conditions, providing effective protection against wind, rain, and lightning.
5. Installation environment requirements: Select industrial-grade integrated circuit chips with an operating temperature range of –40°C to 80°C to prevent the display from failing to start in extremely low winter temperatures. Install ventilation equipment to reduce heat, maintaining the internal temperature of the display within the range of –10°C to 40°C. Mount axial fans at the upper rear of the display enclosure to dissipate excess heat when temperatures exceed the acceptable range.
6. Cost control. Power consumption of the display screen is a factor that must be taken into account.
