What products are covered in the development of plastic molds?

Prior to the 1990s, the mold‑making industry suffered from limited access to CNC machining equipment, resulting in long lead times, low precision, and rough surface finishes for plastic molds. From the mid- to late‑1990s, the gradual introduction and widespread adoption of CNC and other numerically controlled machining technologies significantly improved both the speed and quality of plastic mold production. Nevertheless, compared with developed countries, substantial gaps remain—particularly in machine tool accuracy, workforce expertise, and management standards. It is evident that, despite the rapid growth of China’s plastic mold industry, supply still falls short of demand. The most significant shortcomings persist in the areas of precision, large‑size, complex, and long‑life molds.

Prior to the 1990s mold industry, due to the lack of widespread CNC machining equipment, Plastic mold Delivery times were long, precision was low, and processes were crude. From the mid- to late 1990s, numerically controlled machining equipment, including CNC machines, was gradually introduced and widely adopted, significantly improving both the delivery speed and quality of plastic molds. However, compared with developed countries, substantial gaps remain—primarily in equipment accuracy, workforce competence, and management standards. It is evident that, despite the rapid growth of China’s plastic mold industry, supply still falls far short of demand. The main shortcomings are concentrated in the areas of precision, large‑size, complex, and long‑life molds. Due to disparities in mold precision, service life, manufacturing cycles, and production capacity, China continues to rely heavily on imports of plastic molds each year.

In addition to continuing to expand production capacity, China’s plastic mold industry will place greater emphasis on restructuring its internal composition and advancing technological development. In terms of structural adjustment, corporate structures are becoming increasingly specialized; product portfolios are shifting toward high-end molds; and the import‑export mix is improving. Efforts are underway to refine mold‑forming analysis and structural design for high‑end automotive panel molds, develop multi‑functional composite molds and hybrid machining processes, and apply laser technology to mold design and manufacturing, high‑speed cutting, ultra‑precision polishing, as well as information‑technology‑driven innovations. From a management perspective, the plastic mold sector must move toward standardization and establish a sustainable talent‑development framework.

Currently, Plastic mold Products are being applied more and more widely in the national economy and everyday life. From apparel and food to housing and transportation, plastic mold development and manufacturing play a role in virtually every sector. Consequently, the plastic mold industry will never become a sunset industry, and we must allocate sufficient resources to it. We look forward to the emergence of new talents in this field, who will carry forward the mold‑making tradition, strive to strengthen the industry, and position it at the forefront of the global market.
